Insurance & Fees

Therapy should never come with surprise bills. Here's exactly how paying for sessions works — with insurance or without it.

Using Insurance

Pay With Insurance Through Headway

I partner with Headway to accept many major insurance plans. Headway verifies your benefits, shows you your exact session cost before you book (usually just your copay), and handles all billing with your insurer.

Plans I currently accept through Headway include:

  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • UnitedHealthcare / Optum
  • Oscar Health
  • Oxford

Private Pay

Pay Directly, Keep It Simple

Prefer not to involve insurance? Private pay keeps your care completely between us — no diagnosis on your record, no session limits, no third party involved in your treatment decisions.

Sessions are $150 for 50 minutes, and payment is due at the time of service. I accept credit, debit, and HSA/FSA cards through my secure client portal.

If your insurance has out-of-network benefits, I'll provide a superbill after each session — a detailed receipt you can submit for partial reimbursement.

Common Questions About Paying for Therapy

How does paying with insurance through Headway work?
Headway is a service that lets therapists in private practice accept insurance. You book through my Headway profile, Headway verifies your benefits and tells you your exact cost per session (usually just your copay), and they handle all the billing with your insurance company. There's no extra cost to you for using it.
What will I actually pay per session with insurance?
That depends on your plan — typically your copay or coinsurance, often between $0 and $50 per session. Headway checks your benefits when you book and shows you the exact cost upfront, before your first appointment. No surprise bills.
What if you're not in-network with my insurance?
You can still work with me as a private-pay client, and I can provide a superbill — a detailed receipt you submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Call the number on your insurance card and ask about your 'out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health' to find out what they'd reimburse.
Does insurance cover virtual sessions?
In most cases, yes — plans generally cover telehealth therapy the same as in-person sessions. Headway confirms this for your specific plan when you book.
Why do some people choose private pay even when they have insurance?
Privacy and flexibility. Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis on your record and can limit session frequency or treatment length. Private pay keeps your care entirely between us — no diagnosis required, no third party deciding what you need. Both paths are valid; it's about what matters most to you.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, if you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance, you have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate of what your care is expected to cost before you begin. I provide this to every private-pay client at scheduling, and you can request one at any time.

  • The estimate covers expected charges for sessions and related services.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute it.
  • Make sure to save a copy of your estimate.
